Network Scanning

If you are an administrator and you administrate quite a few computers, you would like to know whats going on in the network. Whats the IP addresses and whos doing illegal shares and so on… There are great tools out there that can do this job in a centralised location, but most of these great tools are large and has a difficult lurning curve and also they are NOT FREE. I myself also has this problem untill i came accross a simple but a great FREE tool. This tool is no match for the great tools out there, but it dose the work fairly easy, that is, i can scan a given IP range and see what computers are available, their NetBIOS, IP's and the shared files. In addition, it allows me to mount shared resources as network drives, browse them using Windows Explorer, filter the results list and more.

SoftPerfect Network Scanner is a free multi-threaded IP, NetBIOS and SNMP scanner with a modern interface and several advanced features. It is intended for both system administrators and users who are interested in computer security. The program pings computers, scans for listening TCP ports and shows what types of resources are shared on a network (including system and hidden).

Main features

  • Fast multithreaded scanning.
  • Pings computers.
  • Detects hardware (MAC) addresses.
  • Detects hidden shared resources (Normally they are not visible on a network) and write accessible shares.
  • Scans for listening TCP ports and SNMP services.
  • Mounting and exploring of found resources.
  • Doesn't require administrative privileges. .

SoftPerfect Network Scanner can also check for a user-defined port and report if it is found open, resolve host names and auto-detect your local IP range.
